Meet Our Pastor

Rev. Dennis McKinney was born May 27, 1955 in Goodwater Alabama, to Duff Murray
and Carrie Edwards. He confessed Christ at the age of ten and united with the
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Goodwater, Alabama.
Rev. McKinney began his education at the Hannah J. Mallory Elementary School. He
graduated from Goodwater High School in May 1974. He enlisted in the United
States Army where he served for twenty years.

The Lord has blessed Rev. McKinney with a very supportive and adoring wife, Sis.
Carolyn McKinney. Along with this blessing came four wonderful sons.

He has been an employee of the United Postal Service (Talladega) for ten years.

In 1996, he rededicated his life to Christ and united with Sweet Home Missionary
Baptist Church Munford, Alabama. There he held the positions:
  • Associate Pastor
  • Sunday School Superintendent
  • Sunday School Teacher
  • Bible Study Teacher
  • Vacation Bible School Coordinator
  • Bus Ministry Coordinator
  • Tape/Sound Ministry Coordinator

In October of 2002, Rev. McKinney accepted his call into the ministry and preached his first sermon in December 2002. In January 2003, he enrolled in school at the Rushing Spring School of Theology, to further his education.  Rev. McKinney received his bachelor's degree in May 2007 and received his master's degree in May 2008.

In May 2007, he was called to pastor New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of
Hobson City, Alabama. As Pastor, Rev. McKinney firmly believes, “Where there is
no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Proverbs 29:18. When a church has no visionary, it becomes stagnate. A church
must be about God’s business.

God has blessed the church tremendously during the five years Rev. McKinney has served as pastor.  New ministries have been organized.  And the people of God display a renewed zeal demonstrated by a willingness to serve with a spirit of excellence.
Rev. McKinney's teaching and preaching God’s Word and leading by example have encouraged and motivated the members to reach higher heights.  He saw the need to remodel and beautify God's house. To that end, improvements have been made to the pastor's study, the front entrance, the baptismal pool, and the construction of a new fellowship hall.

Rev. McKinney is a very compassionate man with a heart for the flock he has been called to serve. His motto to the people of God is: “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
